What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable gels, usually made from hyaluronic acid, used to restore volume, shape contours and improve facial proportions.

Think of fillers as structure and shape, not just “making things bigger”. Placed carefully, they can replace volume lost with age, define the jawline or chin, or give lips subtle definition — while your face keeps its natural movement.

Benefits
  • Restores lost volume
  • Enhances facial proportions
  • Defines and contours selected areas
  • Can improve the appearance of folds and hollows
  • Can provide subtle lip enhancement
  • Creates structure while keeping natural movement

Why dental work matters

It’s especially important to avoid dental work around facial filler treatments, as this can raise the risk of infection or inflammation.

Is it right for me?

Dermal fillers suit people with volume loss, facial asymmetry or structural changes, or anyone wanting subtle enhancement or contouring. We won’t treat you if you have an active infection, cold sore or significant skin irritation in the area.

FAQs

Dermal fillers: your questions

Is there downtime after dermal fillers?

Most people go back to their normal day straight away. Some swelling or tenderness is common at first. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours, heat, saunas and steam for 24–48 hours, and dental work for at least two weeks.

Will my lips look overdone?

Not if we can help it. We focus on proportion and subtle definition, and we’ll tell you honestly if we think more filler wouldn’t suit you.

What’s the difference between fillers and skin boosters?

Fillers add structure and volume to specific areas. Skin boosters like Profhilo improve hydration, firmness and overall skin quality rather than adding volume. Many patients combine the two.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Hyaluronic-acid fillers break down gradually over time, and how long they last depends on the area treated and the product used. Your doctor will advise on maintenance for you.

Why do I need to avoid dental work?

Dental work around the time of facial filler treatment can raise the risk of infection or inflammation, so we ask you to avoid it for two weeks before and at least two weeks after.
